Wagga Orthopaedic Surgeon Associate Professor Adrian van der Rijt received the Australian Orthopaedic Associations (AOA) President's Award for "services to Orthopaedics in a rural area" recently.
The honour was presented at the AOA's annual Scientific Meeting in Sydney. The meeting is the premier event for Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Nominated for the award by peers A/Prof van der Rijt said the award came as a surprise.
"While I am honoured to receive this award, I do feel it reflects on the fact the Orthopaedic Surgeons and other medical colleagues work as a collegiate group, each contributing their specific expertise and professionalism in the management and service to patients in Wagga Wagga and the surrounding rural area" he said.
A/Prof van der Rijt is the Head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Wagga and with a team of Orthopaedic Surgeons trains three AOA accredited Orthopaedic Registrars.
